C3 History Review/STAR Test Preparation Class and Art of the Overland Trail & the Journey Out West

C3’s History Review/STAR Test Preparation Class is designed to encourage students to collaborate and play games to review Ancient, Medieval and U.S. History.  Students will be given test-taking tips and suggested activities will be provided to help students further review at home. This class is designed for 8th graders and other middle schoolers who would benefit from general history review.  C3 is also excited to welcome Vicki Frazer, professional illustrator, homeschool Mom and self-professed “history geek” as she teaches Art of the Overland Trail & the Journey Out West.  Students will journey with the pioneers and learn to use pen and ink in the printmaking style, dabble in colorful Indian art, paint the wild American landscape, and create advertising art to entice new settlers out west.

C3 Science Classes and Labs

Mission Viejo

C3 welcomes Matt Bissell, science instructor at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, as he brings his passion for science and teaching to our students this semester!  Matt will be teaching two four-week science courses.  Course 1 is Earth Science – Geology covering plate tectonics, the rock cycle and rock identification, earthquakes and triangulation, and tsunamis and rogue waves.  Course 2 is Life Science where students will study producers vs. consumers, adaptations, taxonomy and classification, and environmental biology and watershed science.  Please see our website (www.C3Classes.com) for more information about each individual topic.  We are also excited to offer two one-day labs this semester.  First up is Forces and Motion.  In this lab students will use ramps, balls, measuring tapes and a variety of materials to experiment with the concepts of forces, motion, inertia and gravity.  And in Glowing, Growing Polymers students will investigate polymers by “growing” water-absorbing molecules, making “glowing” slime and more.

C3 Public Speaking and Speech & Debate

Mission Viejo

Help your student gain confidence by introducing them to Public Speaking at C3!  Having fun is the goal as students gain confidence through playing games, conducting interviews, reciting poetry, reading, writing and storytelling.  We also apply our unique teaching approach in Speech & Debate, a two-part course that helps students collaborate with one another to hone their critical thinking skills, increase their confidence, and gain a deeper understanding of the power and responsibility of a well trained voice.  Our unique teaching approach, coupled with key concepts from the renowned National Forensics League, helps students develop their research, organizational, reasoning and essay writing skills.

Tame the organizational beast by enrolling your student in C3’s Study Skills/Note Taking/Time Management class!  Over the course of seven weeks, we will present students with a variety of note-taking and studying methods, and teach them techniques to better manage their time.  Students will use a combination of their own work and our samples to figure out ways to become better organized.
